Created by the Maono Cultural Group, based in the Dandora Estate of Nairobi. A small group informally met to dance, rap, play sports and create...the group gave itself an official name in 1999 and has kept growing.

"The idea behind the whole thing is that here in Kenya, the arts are not really supported, so we wanted to create a way out for the artists who live in this estate by creating an arts school, sports centre, social halls, library - so that we can empower ourselves." The Oxford based Young Roots group and the Maono Cultural Group linked together and shared experiences.
